Purple Pens Needs Reviewers
Purple Pens: www.purplepens.com is in search of book reviewers. They are overstocked on romance novels (contemp, specrom, paranormal, a scattering of historicals, Regencies) and need readers. Books are yours to keep once reviewed; reviews are a minimum of 250 words. More details from librarian [at] purplepens.com.
Time Well Bent: Queer Alternate History
From the guidelines:
"Time Well Bent will be an anthology of speculative fiction in the sub-genre of alternate history, written from GLBTQ perspectives. Imagine some historical event, of great or slight significance, veering off from what is currently recorded, thereby changing history in large or small ways. The alternate sexuality of the protagonists must play an integral part in the course of events.
Story length should be between 3000 and 8000 words. Payment will be $100 for each story.
Deadlines: Queries are advisable (to sacchi@sff.net) indicating the historical period and gender presentation you want to write about. Final manuscripts must be submitted by June 30."
Read said guidelines.
Black Dragon, White Dragon
From the guidelines:
"Ricasso Press is pleased to announce it is accepting submissions for its second anthology "Black Dragon, White Dragon." This will be a themed collection of short stories with a total word count of between 85,000 and 100,000 words, dependent on submissions.
What are we looking for?
Stories that involve dragons. Note that this does not say "fantasy stories." Dark fantasy and horror stories will be considered for this collection, as will science fiction stories.
What aren't we looking for?
Profanity, Violence and Sex...I am a prude when I write. I would like to keep this anthology PG-rated at the most, which means you are limited to the occasional mild curse word. I promise that if you use anything stronger than what you would hear on an early-evening television program your story will get bounced. Same for sexual situations and gore.
Read said >guidelines.

Market Updates 2/20/2007
SWORD AND SORCERESS ANTHOLOGY
Norilana Books is proud to announce that it has come to an agreement with the Marion Zimmer Bradley Literary Works Trust to publish the next original book in the classic anthology series Sword and Sorceress.
SWORD AND SORCERESS is the long-running popular series of annual anthologies from DAW Books featuring sword and sorcery stories of strong female protagonists, warrior women and sorceresses, edited by the late Marion Zimmer Bradley for over two decades and beloved by generations of readers.
The last volume of the series, #21 was published by DAW after Mrs. Bradley's death, and the series concluded despite continued reader demand.
Now, the series resumes, with a brand-new volume of original stories expected to be published by Norilana Books in November 2007 in trade paperback format, to be titled MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY'S SWORD AND SORCERESS #22. The anthology will be edited by Elisabeth Waters, and will be open to author submissions starting March 23, 2007.
For more information, including writers' guidelines, reading period, final submissions deadline, and format instructions, please see: http://mzbworks.home.att.net/s22.htm.
Belle Books
BelleBooks, a successful small press started by a group of romance authors including New York Times bestseller Deborah Smith, Sandra Chastain, Romance Writers of America past-VP Debra Dixon and others, is interested in queries for erotica/romantica with Southern settings and/or themes. The publisher is seeking short stories and novellas only. BelleBooks specializes in Southern-themed fiction, and while their current list is G-rated and mainstream, they plan to establish a separate imprint and website identity for erotic anthologies.
BelleBooks publishes exclusively in trade paperback editions. The new erotica imprint will be packaged with the look and feel of sophisticated literary fiction. Requirements: Classic erotica with maturity and elegance. Stories can be dark or light, historical or contemporary, and can contain paranormal elements. Ultra-sleek urban settings are fine along with suburban and rural, as long as the settings are Southern.
BelleBooks pays a small advance but full royalties. The first erotica anthology is tentatively planned for publication in winter 2008.

Nanobison
THEMED ISSUE Q2 - 2007: Other Dimensions of Love
Short fiction (500-10,000 words) must have recognizable speculative element.
Deadline: 3/20/2007
From the guidelines:
Racy? Make it adult if the story calls for it. Just don't make it gratuitous. Our target audience is thinking adults. We love romance, especially Strange Romance, and enjoy a good bit of titillation as much as the next glanded person. Just don't bore us. -------- BODICE RIPPER WARNING -------- WARNING: Bodice Ripper stories may be returned to the submitter along with an invoice for editorial pain and suffering. The standard fee is $10 per page. Now if it's an alien bodice, being ripped in a fresh and excitingly new way, well, that's another story ... Are we prejudiced against speculative romance? No way! Just don't bore us."
The rest of the guidelines are detailed. READ THEM before submittting.
Sahmain Publishing: Dragon Anthology Call for Submissions

I am open to any romance genre, and am placing no qualifications on how dragons are involved in the story, because I don?t want to limit the possibilities. The only caveat is that the story must feature a dragon theme as integral to the story and it must be a romance. Submissions should be 20,000 to 30,000 words in length. "
